. . . more about Adopt A Meal

Using our kitchen facilities, a group can bring groceries and prepare a meal at the House. We encourage our volunteers to prepare the meal in our kitchen to enhance our "Home-away-from-home" atmosphere. If a group is unable to prepare a meal here, they may choose to have something delivered from a restaurant or catering service.

This is a volunteer activity that is great for groups of up to 10 people, which is how many our kitchen comfortably holds. Service organizations, church groups, corporate teams, college organizations....all types of groups have provided meals for our families.

If you want to participate in providing a meal, please complete our volunteer application.  Because this activity is so popular, dates for providing lunch and dinner are typically requested well in advance. Please see our Adopt A Meal Guidelines for the answers to some of the more frequently asked questions about this program. If you have any further questions, please contact Carol Boyd.

Adopt a Meal Program at the Savannah Ronald McDonald House®

We ask our volunteers to keep in mind that healthy, nutritious meals are the best kind to keep our families in good health during a stressful time. Here are some helpful hints:

1. When you have a date in mind, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Carol Boyd, to schedule your meal.
2. Meals must be either prepared at the House or assembled at the House. Meals can also be delivered from a restaurant or catering service. DUE TO HEALTH-CODE, WE ARE UNABLE TO SERVE MEALS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN PREPARED IN A NON-COMMERCIAL KITCHEN.
3. If you have not been to the House before, please allow 15-20 minutes before you begin preparation to take a tour of the facility and meet the staff.
4. Dinner is served at 6p.m. In addition, breakfast and lunch are always a treat! Breakfast can be served from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and lunch can be served from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
5. Plan to prepare enough food for 20-25 people. You are also welcome to join the families during the meal.
6. Comfort food is always warmly received and appreciated! We do see a lot of spaghetti dinners and chicken so please call ahead of time if you have these in mind to make sure we’ve not served it recently.
7. The menu should be only mildly spiced and able to accommodate various palates.
8. Meals should include a salad, main course + vegetables and a fresh fruit/mixed fruit for dessert. The House has plenty of beverages, so volunteers do not need to provide any.
9. The House has plenty of cookware, plates, bowls, cups, and silverware for the volunteers and the families to use.
10. Clean up kitchen & any dishes used in the preparation of the meal and take the garbage out before you leave.
