FUNDRAISING:

There is no registration fee or minimum amount to raise to participate in Battle of the Bakers. However, we ask all participants to start a fundraising webpage on www.firstgiving.com/rmhccoastal. It’s free, easy and safe to use. You simply set up the page and email your friends, coworkers and family members to tell them what you are up to. They click to make a donation in your name. The donations come directly to the Savannah House and your donors are automatically thanked and receipted. No amount is too small, but if they support you with a $65+ donation, they will receive a $25 gift certificate to Kitchenware Outfitters!  AND if you RAISE $65+ you receive a FREE Battle of the Bakers T-Shirt. What a deal!

FEATURED BATTLE ITEM:

Each year, Battle of the Bakers will spotlight a baked good to see who has the Best of a particular item. One year, it might be the best chocolate chip cookie or the best apple pie. This year, we are looking for the best cheesecake.  As such, cheesecake will have it’s own category this year.
Other categories for the Battle of the Bakers are:
cookie         pie/cobbler/tart        cake         brownie/bar         muffin         candy         other

The Battle:

1. Contestants will be judged on three main categories: Taste, Appearance and Authenticity. Judges will also be looking for creativity, originality, texture, and effort. All these will figure into the overall score. There will be prizes for the winner in each category and for the Best in Battle.

2. There will be a Professional Experience Category and Home Only Category. If the contestant has had professional culinary experience that would give him/her an edge over the Home Baker including attending Culinary School, the contestant should enter this category.

3. All entries are encouraged to be baked “from scratch” with minimal to zero use of prepared mixes, doughs, frostings, fillings or piecrusts. If any components are prepared or store-bought, it must be indicated in the recipe.

4. All contestants should make three judges’ portions, and at least 150 taster portions for the bake sale. For example, if your item were a cookie, you would make 150 more cookies. If your item were a cake or pie, you would cut your pieces into sample sizes and put them into taster cups. It is possible that each one of your 150 pieces will be accounted for in the bake sale, so if you want to nibble or share with others, please make extra.  We ask that your taster portion not be too small as bake sale guests are making a $65 donation to RMHC to taste your item.

5. Contestants are required to provide the judges and committee with 3 copies of the recipe of their entries. Recipes should be typed or printed plainly on an 8 ½”x11” sheet of paper, include contestant’s name and contact information, and accompany their baked goods. The recipe should include a complete ingredient list with accurate measurements, instructions for preparation and baking including temperatures and time.

6. There will be 2 contestants per Bake Sale Table. Contestants are responsible for the appearance of their half of the table. (Have fun with it!)

7. RMHC reserves the right to reproduce the recipes in a cookbook or online for future use in fundraisers, for marketing purposes or to share at its discretion.

8. Contestants are required to exercise care in cleanliness and good sanitation practices when preparing their entries.

9. All entries, both the baked goods and the recipes become the property of RMHC upon entry in the contest.

10. The decision of the judges shall be final.                                                                                                            Back to Home Page
