HOW TO STAY

The Kidd Family

In March 2019, after multiple unsuccessful attempts to conceive, Jacquie and Michael were blessed with the discovery that Jacquie was pregnant. In late July, while Michael was at work, Jacquie was home making her routine preparations for work when her water broke prematurely.

At this time, fear for the worst had settled in for both Jacquie’s and their baby’s health. Fortunately, she was able to contact her doctor, who saw her immediately and had her transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia, where she was admitted for continuous observation and bed rest.

At 11:08 AM on August 11th, the Kidd family was blessed with the arrival of Andy. Their family was filled with mixed feelings of fear and joy because Andy was 88 days premature, born just 27 weeks and 2 days into Jacquie’s pregnancy. He was immediately transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where he remained in critical condition for the next 74 days.

On August 13th, Jacquie was discharged from the hospital and that’s when the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Coastal Empire came to the Kidd family’s aid. For the next 72 days, Jacquie would come to know this as home with Michael traveling hundreds of miles weekly from their home to spend weekends with Jacquie at Andy’s bedside.
Andy’s long stay in the NICU was a roller coaster of hope, setbacks, fear, and joy. Having Jacquie close allowed Andy to get the maternal love and attention needed to help him strengthen and grow, making his stay in NICU shorter than projected.
